I average a score of 72 and play 150 rounds a year. I picked these seriously.
Buy clubs one at a time and 14 clubs come to about ¥300,000. A set, with a bag, starts in the ¥40,000s.
As a gear nerd, I lined up three beginner sets with a caddie bag available on Rakuten Ichiba by club count, contents, bag and price. I have not written how they swing. I chose using only what is written on the product pages and in the retailer listings.

Bottom line

Three sets by club count, contents and price

The good thing about a beginner set is that weight, stiffness and length come matched for beginners from the start. You need no selection know-how. Here I picked three sets that even come with a caddie bag.

Prices are the lowest listed price for a new set on Rakuten Ichiba (Oct 21, 2026, Rakuten Web Service). Contents and bag come from each product page. I left out the club-by-club contents and lofts of the F-01α because I found few sources. ◎ marks the best of the three.

One thing that is easy to miss. “9-inch” is the size of the bag's opening (9 inches). “Fits 47-inch” means it holds clubs up to 47 inches long, driver included. 3.8kg and 2.3kg are the weight of the bag alone. If you walk the round, that difference matters.

The three sets: what's good and what's weak

No. 1 World Eagle F-01α 13-Piece Set. The cheapest way to start.10 clubs and a stand bag for ¥42,790. About half the price of No. 2, the Bridgestone. If you started within six months and don't yet know whether you'll stick with it, it is the buy where you risk the least.

The weak side is that the loft of each club and the shaft stiffness were not in any source I found. Be sure to check the product page. Next to a club maker's set, the brand reassurance also differs.

No. 2 Bridgestone BG-100. 11 clubs, and the contents are clear.1W, 5W, U4, 6 to 9 irons, PW, AW, SW and a putter: 11 clubs. The woods and the hybrid have carbon shafts. The irons come in two specs, steel (N.S.PRO 955GH) and carbon. The bag is 9-inch, 3.8kg, and fits up to 47 inches.

The weak side is that the product name here is from 2022, so it is not a new model. Even so, it is the only one of the three whose 11-club contents I could confirm. With two wedges (AW and SW), you can start practicing approaches right away.

No. 3 Mizuno RV-9. The lofts are published.1W (10.5°), 5W (18°), 4U (24°), irons from 27° in the 6 to 40° in the 9, PW 45°, SW 56°, and a putter. It is the only one of the three where I could confirm every loft. From the 6-iron to the PW, you can see the loft opening up by 4 to 5 degrees each. The bag is light at 9.0-inch and 2.3kg.

The weak side is price. From ¥114,338, and ¥121,000 at Mizuno's official Rakuten store. About 2.7 times No. 1. It is for people who want to start with a domestic maker's standard and feel safe.

• You want to choose by the loft of each club

Three things to check before you buy a set

1. Is the driver loft 10.5° or more?Early on, you need loft to make up for height.
2. Around 10 clubs is enough.The rules let you carry up to 14 in a round. 8 to 10 is plenty at first.
3. Check the stiffness mark on the shaft.If in doubt, R (regular). Too stiff and the ball won't launch.

A set also has the advantage that you can swap clubs one at a time later. The one you'll want to change first is probably the driver. Best Drivers for Beginners gives how to choose, down to actual prices.

For reference, a step up. Dunlop's XXIO 14 comes as an 11-club set without a bag from ¥385,440 (Rakuten Ichiba). Against a set in the ¥40,000s, it is an order of magnitude more.

Where this ranking is weak

• There are no swing impressions. I chose using only what the product pages and retailers show.
• I found no source for the F-01α's per-club lofts and shaft stiffness, or the BG-100's lofts.
• Prices move daily. The table shows Rakuten Ichiba as of 10/21/2026.
• Women's sets are outside the scope of this article.
