Mizuno NEO IMPACT Compared+ENERZY vs ENERZY, 3E vs 4E, BOA vs laces. Five models on the official spec sheets

Updated: Sep 17, 2026Contains affiliate links

The differences among Mizuno NEO IMPACT models are only three: width (3E and 4E), upper material, and closure (BOA or laces). On the official online product pages, the descriptions of the sole, midsole and insole were the same for all five.
So the order of choosing is width first, then look, then price. There's little to agonize over. By the time you finish this article, you'll know which model to buy. The basis for the verdict is Mizuno's news release and the spec sheets on its product pages.

The Gear Nerd's Pick

NEO IMPACT + ENERZY BOA (51GM2681, ¥21,450) If I were recommending one pair to someone, it's this. It comes in three colors, and one of them is available from 22.5cm. Only golfers with wide feet should switch to the 4E (51GQ2691) of the same build.

Bottom line

The inside is the same on all five. Polyurethane resin across the whole outsole, a full-length MIZUNO ENERZY midsole, a removable ENERZY XP insole and a one-year waterproof warranty.
There are three differences: width, 3E or 4E; upper, PU-coated mesh or synthetic leather; and BOA or laces. The four BOA models are ¥21,450, and only the direct-store laced model is ¥18,700.
On the other hand, I think if lightness is your top priority, you needn't buy the NEO IMPACT. Mizuno's Nexlite Energy II BOA is about 280g per shoe, roughly 75 to 80g lighter than the NEO IMPACT, at ¥18,700.

Three things decide the model: width, upper material, closure

How a shoe feels depends on the shape of your foot. There's not much I can state flatly about other people's feet. So in this article I separate the models using only differences anyone can check on the official spec sheet.

  1. Width. 3E or 4E. In the model number, "51GM" is 3E and "51GQ" is 4E.
  2. Upper material. The "+ENERZY" is PU-coated mesh (synthetic leather and synthetic fiber upper), and the "ENERZY" is synthetic leather.
  3. Closure and where it's sold. The four BOA models (dial-tightened) are also sold in golf shops, and the one laced model is Mizuno direct stores only.

I haven't framed this as choosing by performance. The reason is simple: the sole descriptions are the same across all five models.

Source: Mizuno news release (Aug 17, 2026) and each product page on Mizuno official online. Checked Sep 17, 2026. Prices are the tax-inclusive prices on official online, and the four BOA models are open-priced. The 29.0cm size is the next size after 28.0cm (there is no 28.5cm). For the 51GM2681, the product page and the release give weights 5g apart.

Sole, midsole and insole are shared by all five

Read the five official online product pages side by side and the function descriptions are nearly the same sentences. There's no difference here.
The outsole has polyurethane resin across the whole surface, the midsole is MIZUNO ENERZY throughout, and the insole is a removable ENERZY XP insole. All of them carry a one-year waterproof warranty.

On the sole layout, Mizuno says it was decided by analyzing foot motion during the swing every 1/300 of a second. It says it applied analysis of the stride in baseball spikes.

Figures compared with Mizuno's own HAZARD ENERZY are also published. Cushioning improved about 24% in the forefoot and about 15% in the heel. Rebound improved about 30% in both forefoot and heel. Mizuno notes that the rebound figure is a comparison when pressed straight down. These numbers are a comparison with the HAZARD ENERZY, not against other makers' shoes.

+ENERZY vs ENERZY: upper material and color

A "+" in the name makes it look like the higher model. But the price is the same ¥21,450. There is no top and bottom.

The +ENERZY upper is mesh with a waterproof PU coating. It comes in three colors: white/orange/blue, gray/white, and white/coral/saxe. The ENERZY is synthetic leather, in two colors: white/silver and gray/navy. By look, the +ENERZY seems sporty and the ENERZY seems closer to a calm leather shoe.

There's one more clear difference. Only the white/coral/saxe +ENERZY BOA (Color 41) is available from 22.5cm. The other colors and models start at 24.5cm, so golfers with small feet are decided here.

Who the +ENERZY BOA (51GM2681) is perfect for

Who the ENERZY BOA (51GM2683, 51GQ2693) is perfect for

Choosing 3E or 4E: the 4E has limited colors

Width is set by model number. 3E is "51GM" and 4E is "51GQ." Mizuno says both 3E and 4E are designed for Japanese foot shapes. But foot circumference measurements aren't in the release or on the product page. You can't compare by numbers. This is the only place where you need to try them on.

So if your everyday shoes feel tight in width, consider the 4E and try it against the 3E in a shop. It helps to know first that the 4E has limited colors. The +ENERZY 4E (51GQ2691) comes in one color, white/orange/blue, and the ENERZY 4E (51GQ2693) in two. The laced direct-store model has no 4E.

The lace-up direct-store model is ¥2,750 cheaper

The 51GM2682 is a Mizuno direct-store-only model that puts laces on the +ENERZY upper. The price is ¥18,700, ¥2,750 less than the 4 BOA models. Weight is about 355g on the product page.

The difference from BOA is the closure. Laces let you set tightness differently across the upper. BOA lets you retighten with just a turn of the dial even mid-round. Which is better is a matter of taste, but if you want the same sole for less, laces. The weak points: it's sold only at direct stores and on official online, and only in 3E.

If lightness is what you want, the Nexlite Energy II is enough

Compared on the same Mizuno 3E, BOA and waterproofing, the Nexlite Energy II BOA (51GM2651) is about 280g per shoe and the NEO IMPACT BOA about 355 to 360g. That's a gap of about 75 to 80g per shoe, about 150 to 160g for the pair. The Nexlite is also ¥2,750 cheaper. It's not a small difference.

The Nexlite's midsole is also MIZUNO ENERZY, with a one-year waterproof warranty. The sole has two sizes of studs, and Mizuno says it set the larger ones to resist twisting.

So which one? The reasons to pick the NEO IMPACT are the polyurethane resin across the whole outsole and the published cushioning and rebound numbers compared with the HAZARD ENERZY. I'm on the side that carries a driver 270 yards (author's measurement). So for footwear, I look at planting my feet before lightness. Still, if your biggest complaint is tired feet from walking 18 holes, you needn't buy the NEO IMPACT. The Nexlite Energy II answers that complaint with numbers.

FAQ

What's the difference between the NEO IMPACT "+ENERZY" and "ENERZY"?

Upper material and color. The +ENERZY is mesh with PU coating, and the ENERZY is synthetic leather. On the official online product pages, the outsole, midsole and insole descriptions are the same, and the BOA models are the same ¥21,450.

Should I choose 3E or 4E in the NEO IMPACT?

If your everyday shoes feel tight in width, consider the 4E (model 51GQ) and try it against the 3E (51GM) in a shop. Foot circumference measurements aren't published. The 4E comes in limited colors: one for the +ENERZY 4E and two for the ENERZY 4E.

How much does the NEO IMPACT weigh?

About 355 to 360g per shoe at 26.0cm. The 51GM2681 is listed at about 355g on the product page and about 360g in the news release. Mizuno's Nexlite Energy II BOA is about 280g, roughly 75 to 80g lighter.

What changed from the HAZARD ENERZY to the NEO IMPACT?

Mizuno says that against the HAZARD ENERZY, cushioning is about 24% better in the forefoot and about 15% in the heel, and rebound about 30% better in both. It says the sole was designed by analyzing foot motion during the swing every 1/300 of a second.
