ComparisonThe OPUS SP+ Costs JPY 6,600 More than the OPUS SP: Reading the MIM Face and 13 g of Tungsten by the Official NumbersA chart of loft, bounce, grind and weight for the JPY 37,400 and JPY 30,800 models

"Is the OPUS SP enough, or do I pay JPY 6,600 more for the SP+?" For anyone unsure before buying. Short answer: the SP+ is JPY 37,400 and the SP JPY 30,800, a gap of JPY 6,600. The SP+ raises the center of gravity with an MIM face and a tungsten plate of 13 g or more (Callaway official).
Would I pay JPY 6,600? My case: In October 2026 I looked at a display OPUS SP+ at a local golf shop. I did not pick it up or address it. I use the Vokey SM11 in 50°, 54° and 58°.
- For how I play now, I am on the side that would not pay JPY 6,600 (37,400 − 30,800). Most of my 54° and 58° shots are 30 to 50 yards from the fairway, and what troubles me is not bunkers but the spread in how the ball stops from the rough. If I could confirm that the stopping distance from the rough shrinks by 2 yards, it would be worth paying.
- For the grind, I take two things together: my setup puts my hands about 3 cm ahead of the ball (a rough estimate from a phone video), and the 54° (10S) of my SM11 has suited me. So the S grind (10° of bounce) is my first choice. The Z has 8° of bounce, so for someone whose hands sit forward it looked likely to dig in. The X at 12° is one I would like to try in fluffy rough or soft bunkers.
- A tip for buyers: first hold the OPUS SP Chrome in a shop and check whether the grind's shape suits your setup, then move on to the SP+.

Bottom line
The OPUS SP+ is a limited model with an MIM-process face welded to the body and a tungsten plate of 13 g or more in the upper back of the face. Lofts are limited to four from 54° to 60°, and the grinds are Z, S and X. The gap with the OPUS SP is JPY 6,600. If you want 48° to 52° or the T and C grinds, the OPUS SP suits you.
Numbers come from the Callaway Japan product pages (re-read on Nov 7, 2026); I calculated the price gap myself.
The two clubs on one chart
| Item | OPUS SP+ | OPUS SP Chrome |
|---|---|---|
| Price (tax included) | ¥37,400 | JPY 30,800 (gap JPY 6,600) |
| Release date | Mar 20, 2026 (limited) | Sep 5, 2025 |
| Face construction | Stainless steel (MIM process) + cast body | Forged soft-iron face + cast soft-iron body |
| Loft | 54°, 56°, 58°, 60° (4 models) | 48–60° (7 models) |
| Bounce | 8° / 10° / 12° | 6–14° |
| Grind | Z, S, X | T, C, X, S, W |
| Number of combinations | 11 combinations | 22 combinations |
| Weight (standard S shaft) | About 454–458 g | About 442–454 g |
The SP+ has an MIM-process face welded to a cast soft-iron body, with a tungsten plate of 13 g or more in the upper back of the face. Callaway says it gives the highest center of gravity among its current products.
What does the JPY 6,600 pay for?
By Callaway's explanation, the JPY 6,600 gap corresponds to the MIM face, the tungsten of 13 g or more, and the SPIN GEN 2 groove technology. Lofts run only from 54° to 60°, so you would need separate wedges around 50°.
The OPUS SP has the same shape (Shape 6) and offers seven lofts from 48° to 60°. If you still need 48° to 52°, one OPUS SP line covers them.
My case: would I pay JPY 6,600?
For how I play now, I am on the side that would not pay. Since I have no chance to hit one, I have no number that justifies JPY 6,600. I think it becomes worth paying once I can confirm the stopping distance from the rough shrinks by 2 yards.
The SP+ is a limited release, and the local shop I go to had no demo club to hit, only a display piece. Until I find a shop where I can hit one, I will not rush the decision on the JPY 6,600 gap.
Three criteria for choosing
- Are you looking at 54° to 60°? If you need 48° to 52°, choose the OPUS SP.
- Which grind? The SP+ has Z, S and X; the OPUS SP has T, C, X, S and W. If none suits your setup, start with the SP.
- Can you accept a gap of JPY 6,600? Decide by whether you would pay for the way the ball stops from the rough.
For now I am on the side that would not pay. If I can confirm that the stop from the rough shrinks by 2 yards, I will. If I choose one, I start with the S grind (10° of bounce), which suits a setup with the hands forward. Please hold the OPUS SP in a shop first.
