RankingsWomen's Wedge Rankings 2026My three picks from loft choices, weight, price and sole design
Updated: Oct 7, 2026Contains affiliate links
Among women's wedges, No. 1 is the Kasco Dolphin Wedge DW-125G, No. 2 the Cleveland Smart Sole FULL-FACE and No. 3 the ONOFF FROG'S LEAP-II.
Looking into women's iron sets, one number stood out. 12°.
XXIO, ONOFF and Bridgestone all have a 44° PW and 56° sand wedge. Buy a 5-club set and that 12° in between stays open. It's a gap worth three club numbers.
I'm a gear nerd who normally studies only how clubs are built, with an average score of 72 and a best of 68. I compared seven single wedges sold as women's models on official numbers. If you can't get out of bunkers, or your distances around 50 yards are off, you can decide on the one to add.
The Gear Nerd's Pick
No. 1: Kasco Dolphin Wedge DW-125G for LADIES (¥30,800) Choose from six lofts: 48, 50, 52, 56, 58 and 60°. Of these seven, it's the only women's wedge with a lineup this complete. If your set's PW is 44°, add a 50° and the gap is filled. If you struggle in bunkers, swap the set's sand wedge for a 56° or 58°. One model reaches both problems. Weight is also light, 378 to 384g. The sole has different bounce angles in the center, heel and toe, built to glide over sand whether or not you open the face.

Bottom line
First, check the lofts in your current set. What is the PW, and the club after it?
If there's a big gap, add one club at the midpoint loft. With 44° and 56°, that's 50°.
If you can't get out of bunkers, switch to a wide-sole wedge. The Smart Sole FULL-FACE at ¥18,700 is the cheapest way to try it.
If you get out of the bunker in one shot and can vary your 50-yard shots, you needn't add anything.
Ranked by loft choices, weight, price and sole
Women's wedge troubles are mostly two. You can't get out of the bunker. And you can't hit the distance between PW and sand wedge.
- Loft choices. Is there an angle to fill the gap?
- Weight. Does it get suddenly heavier than the iron set?
- Price. Manufacturer's suggested retail price.
- Sole design. How the maker describes it.
The material is each maker's official Japanese spec sheet. I couldn't find any third-party measurements of Japan-spec women's clubs.
No. 1 Dolphin Wedge, No. 2 Smart Sole, No. 3 FROG'S LEAP-II
Here are seven single wedges officially offered as women's models.
| Model | Loft choices | Weight | Price (incl. tax) |
|---|---|---|---|
| No. 1 Kasco Dolphin Wedge DW-125G for LADIES | ◎ 48, 50, 52, 56, 58, 60° | 378–384g | ¥30,800 |
| No. 2 Cleveland Smart Sole FULL-FACE (Ladies) | 58° and 64° | 385 and 388g | ◎ ¥18,700 |
| No. 3 ONOFF FROG'S LEAP-II | 51, 58, 64° | ◎ 373–376g | ¥24,200 |
| Fourteen FR-3 Ladies | 46, 48, 50, 52, 54° | 391–402g | ¥30,800 |
| PING G LE 4 (UW and SW) | 52° and 56° | Not published | ¥34,100 |
| Bridgestone B-LD CONCEPT (AW) | 50 degrees | Not published | ¥19,360 |
| ONOFF FROG'S RUNNING (roll-only) | 42° | 472g | ¥26,400 |
Why This Order
| Rank | Model | Why I ranked it here |
|---|---|---|
| No. 1 | Kasco Dolphin Wedge DW-125G for LADIES | 6 lofts from 48° to 60°, the most of the 7. The 50° gap-filler and the 56° and 58° bunker lofts come from the same model. Weight is 378 to 384g, the 2th lightest. The ¥30,800 price isn't cheap. |
| No. 2 | Cleveland Smart Sole FULL-FACE | ¥18,700 is the cheapest of the 7. The wide sole lets you accept it as a bunker club. It falls short of No. 1 because the lofts are only 58° and 64°, which can't fill the gap to the PW. |
| No. 3 | ONOFF FROG'S LEAP-II | At 51° and 373g, it is the lightest of the seven. Loft and lie can be adjusted ±1°. I put it at No. 3 because it has just three lofts (51, 58, 64°), no 56°, and the design dates from 2023. |
I looked first at whether it can fill the gap in your set and whether it's built to handle bunkers. Change the criteria and the order changes. Reread it by whichever point you look at first.
No. 1 Dolphin Wedge: six lofts fill the gap and the bunker
The Dolphin Wedge has six lofts. Six, from 48° to 60°. Among women's wedges, no other model among these seven lets you choose this finely.
The sole is distinctive. Bounce (the angle of the sole's bulge) differs in the center, heel and toe. At 56 to 60°, it's 8° in the center, 3° at the heel and negative at the toe. The aim is that even hit as it is, without opening the face, it resists digging into sand and gets through easily.
Kasco writes on its official page that its bunker escape rate was 20% higher than a typical sand wedge. This is the maker's own test. The conditions aren't described in detail, so read the number with that in mind.
Weight is 378g at 48 to 52° and 384g at 56 to 60°. The shaft is a 39g graphite in L. The XXIO 14 Ladies sand wedge is 347g, so this is about 37g heavier (author's calculation). A slightly heavier wedge is harder to move with your hands and steadier. But some golfers will feel it suddenly heavier. This is a weak spot.
One more thing. The model whose specs I could confirm on the official page is the made-to-order Midnight Blue color. Regular-color women's models are also in shops, but I couldn't confirm their official specs this time.

No. 2 Smart Sole FULL-FACE: ¥18,700. Accept it as bunker-only
The Smart Sole FULL-FACE is ¥18,700. The cheapest of the 7. You can try it for ¥12,100 less than the Dolphin Wedge.
It's wide. As the name says, the sole is wide. Cleveland explains that the three-layer wide sole reduces mistakes. The face is grooved all over, built to put spin on the ball even if you open it and hit toward the toe. The women's spec is the same head with a graphite shaft (L, 41g). The 58° TYPE-S is 385g.
The reason it wasn't No. 1 is loft. 58° and 64°. It's a club for the bunker and high shots, with nothing around 50° to fill the gap to the PW. For golfers who only want to fix the bunker, this would be No. 1.
No. 3 FROG'S LEAP-II: 373g. The lightest of the seven
The FROG'S LEAP-II is 373g at 51°. That's the lightest figure of the seven. The dedicated shaft is 37g. Switching from the iron set, the step in weight is small.
The sole has two levels, front and back. ONOFF calls it "double bounce." It's a very wide sole meant to slide even when you hit it fat. The official page says loft and lie can be adjusted up to ±1°. It's cast soft iron, so it can be bent to fit.
Lofts are 51, 58 and 64°. With the 51° available, the 12° gap between a 44° PW and a 56° sand wedge is filled by adding this 1 club.
¥24,200.
The reason for third place is range of choice. The three lofts are 7° and 6° apart, with no 56°. The dedicated shaft came out in March 2023, so it is an older design among the seven.
The four that missed the top three, and who needn't buy
- Fourteen FR-3 Ladies: five lofts from 46 to 54°. Forged soft iron, released Apr 17, 2026. The build is the most serious of the seven. But at 391 to 402g it's heavy, and the women's lineup goes only to 54°. There's no 56° or 58° for bunkers.
- PING G LE 4 UW and SW: 52° and 56°, both with 13° bounce. They hit in the same flow as the irons. 1 clubs ¥34,100, the most expensive.
- Bridgestone B-LD CONCEPT AW: 50° at ¥19,360. 1 club to fill the gap for golfers already using the B-LD irons.
- ONOFF FROG'S RUNNING: a 42° roll-only club. You hit it like a putter around the green. It's a different tool rather than a wedge.
Who needn't add one
- Golfers who usually get out of the bunker in one shot
- Golfers who can vary the distance between PW and sand wedge with swing length
- Golfers who mostly hit thin chips (the sole won't fix that. It's ball position and weight shift)
How to combine lofts is in a table in How many wedges to carry. Why you hit fat from bunkers is in Fat chips and bounce.

FAQ
What wedge lofts should a woman buy?
Look up the lofts of your set's PW and sand wedge and add the midpoint. Many women's sets have a 44° PW and 56° sand wedge, so one approach wedge around 50° makes the distance in between easier to hit.
Which women's wedge is easiest to hit out of a bunker?
One with a wide sole that resists digging into sand. Among these seven, the Kasco Dolphin Wedge, Cleveland Smart Sole FULL-FACE and ONOFF FROG'S LEAP-II are built on that idea. Kasco says its own test showed a 20% higher escape rate.
How do women's wedges differ from men's?
Mainly shaft and weight. The Smart Sole FULL-FACE uses the same head, with a steel shaft in men's and a 41g graphite shaft in women's. Women's models run about 370 to 400g, built so the weight doesn't jump suddenly from the iron set.
Do I need a 64° wedge?
Not unless you often play courses with high bunker lips. The more loft, the more often you get the mistake of sliding under the ball. One 56 to 58° wedge is enough to start.
